It occurred to me that there are many different kinds of code: - source code: e.g. blocks, files, strings of characters - parsed code: e.g. tokenised words, nested lists in Lisp - compiled code: e.g. machine code, threaded code, byte code So when someone writes "in language X, code/data is/isn't data/code", there are plenty of ways for people to get confused about the intent. Lispers usually have the second kind in mind, and occasionally the first, whereas compiled functions are opaque (except in a few interpreter- only implementations). I'm still not sure how to understand the statment "in Forth data is code, but not in Lisp". It seems to me the two languages have roughly equal capabilities in this area.
