Wide disparities between rich and poor - often exacerbated by government policies that favor busness over labor in order to promote industrial development (needed for armaments) - endanger social stability. Also, since men spend a lot of money in an "arms race" of another sort, buying bling to compete for mates, taxes that are allocated in an equitable manner don't change relative rank order, but put the money to better use. Either way, I doubt it's feasible to raise taxes enough to have a true deflationary effect, but it might be feasible to materially reduce the rate of inflation. But just because corporations involve humans, that doesn't mean they have the same objectives or laws of behavior as the human species. Except for the smallest, corporations are not tied to particular individual humans, and may outlive humans by quite a bit (the Hudson's Bay Company was "born" in 1670, and it's not the oldest). Corporations (in general) are inherently amoral. Thus we have instances like Krupp, VW, Enron, Bhopal, and Minamata.

to this degree correct, that the corporation is an artificial

psychopathy is always there in any corporation that falls within the
domain of Friedman's remark.
Circa 1970, Schumacher wrote,
The modern economy is propelled by a frenzy of greed and indulges
in an orgy of envy and these are not accidental features but the
very causes if its expansionist success....If human vices such as
greed and envy are systematically cultivated, the inevitable
result us nothing less than the collapse of intelligence. If
whole societies become infected by these vices, they may indeed
achieve astonishing things but the become increasingly incapable
of solving the most elementary problems of everyday existence.

Just so. But typically those who are the components of a large
corporation are not going to render what's owing.
After Bhopal, the CEO -- Anderson? -- was said to have expressed
humility and mortification and to have accepted responsibility. One
might have expected im to spend the rest of his life in sack cloth and
ashes. That may well have been unfeigned but before long, it was
business as usual again. The inexorable corporate bias to
psychopathic self-interest was just too much. We should have expected
that the corporation take every possible precaution to prevent such a
disaster, no matter how costly to the shareholders. In the aftermath,
we should have demanded the death penalty for Union Carbide. That
might have meant simply terminating the company or, better, putting it
under the control of a bankruptcy master and devoting all its net
income to remediation. Forever.

As for the control of the world in _Nineteen Eighty-Four_, we're in great danger. The telescreens have already been deployed (personal computers with webcams, microphones, and insecure Internet connections). Our employer, government (all levels), health care, insurance companies, banks, etc., all capture tons of information about us. Modern computers allow them to not only store _everything_, but also categorize it and sort it quickly and easily, and transmit anywhere in the world. Identity thieves have taken full advantage of this. Insurance companies, banks, and employers (at the least), take advantage of this to do screening, some known, but some secret, using secret databases consumers do not know about nor can do anything about. (CBS News did a report on this a year or so ago). I am waiting for some kid to be offered a job, but told the salary will be low because something in his past. In reality, there isn't any risk to his job at all, but it gives the employer a nice little wedge to save money and hold down wages.
