Well, that's the question, isn't it? Same as anything in the tech world. And the answer depends greatly on the individual use case, the devs' familiarity with the tools in question, and the cost of a byte's worth of hardware. Thankfully, it's also something that we can consider Someone Else's Problem any time it's not actually our problem.

While it isn't a bare-metal FORTH, targetting a virtual machine, in terms of learning about FORTHs, I think it qualifies. And if I don't qualify as a "young kid", well, I have a 13-year-old brother, who has also started learning the language.

I learned C++ in school, and I am mostly familiar with what the differences are (although it was not that long ago that I found out that C only added the option to specify the underlying type of an enum within the last 3-4 years, which surprised me). Nowadays I prefer to use Ada, although I am also looking into Zig.
