Shouldn't > ANY be EITHER. > See, this is exactly what I mean about not preserving a word's original name and not correcting the incorrect behavior. You run out of appopriate names. Then, the specifications end up with some catastrophically awful names, like POSTPONE. I understand that not breaking existing code was important, and perhaps still is. However, at some point in time, you guys are just going to have to fix the bad, bad, bad (re)naming problem you've got. Perhaps you could, like C, use some defined constants to select which version of Forth syntax is in use for a specific program ... I thought you guys already had that though. Or, you could add the specification year to the end, e.g., NOT79, NOT83, etc. First, let's look at words that can't be used for Hans' NOT: NOT - can't be re-used because early Forth's used INVERT - currently in-use NEGATE - in-use since Forth-79 MINUS - used by fig-Forth Now, let's look at potential *new* words for Hans' NOT: REVERSE - ? OPPOSITE - ? TWIXT - ? COMPLEMENT - ? Ok, seems it's time for me to pull out the thesaurus: INVERSE - perhaps too similar to INVERT ... SWAP - ? SWITCH - ? FLIP - ? Well, good luck with that guys and gals. Rod Pemberton
