The old-timers here know much better than I do, but my impression is that Forth has traditionally been written in Forth almost from the beginning. Chuck's Forths were written in Forth, and even Figforth was originally metacompiled but then distributed as assembler listings for bootstrapping and conceptual simplification for non-Forth programmers. In other words, implementing Forth in anything but Forth seems to be missing the point. > In my case I have very good tools. The macro assembler is > outstanding. It's so robust and powerful I can't reproduce it If you're going after implementation convenience by a non-Forth language for your Forth implementation, why go as low-level as assembler? There's a pretty cool Forth written in Javascript, for example: http://forthfreak.net/jsforth.html You can run it in a browser and it occurs to me, it might be interesting to add some metacompilation hooks. So you could write a Forth in Forth, then use an "interpreter in the sky" (i.e. server-hosted JSForth) to bootstrap with.
