More than that I run Unix programs in unmodified form from that era. And
with good reason.

It will probably already fail to compile when you transition from one debian
stable to the next.  Let alone when some major component (like a widgetset)
changes version (with the old one soon unsupported).

Note that this is the practice. In theory source level compilability could
be very durable too, but it doesn't seem to be an objective.
