Programs in the 80s and 90s were distributed in binary form, with a
privative license, and had to be bought for a lot of money.
How many of those programs can you still run nowadays?
(ie. how much of that money did you actually threw out of the window?)
(Well not lost to everybody, Bill Gates is vaccinating Africa and Larry
Ellison bought a Hawaii island).


Contrast that with the software that is distributed in source form with
a freedom preserving license, and that you could compile on your old
unix workstations, on your linux systems, on MacOSX, on Android, and
even sometimes on MS-Windows, even today, and you will be able to
compile and use them still in 50 years!

The difference is that being a _user_ of Android or iPhone, you're
basically raped everytime you use them.
