I want to say the old CBM DOS (disk operating system) which originated
from CBM mainframes, used by Commodore's disk drives for their home
computers, e.g., C64, VIC20, simply marked directory entries as
deleted.  However, I'd need to actually go look it up to say for sure.
Maybe, it was MS-DOS instead? ...
