Your search was too narrow, in one way, and too broad, in another.
That change would break code using fixed length array parameters just as
easily as it would break VLAs. If you don't understand why, re-read it -
it makes no distinctions between fixed and variable length arrays. On
the other hand, it only affects function parameters declared are arrays;
other array declarations would be unaffected. I could be mistaken, but I
got the impression from your description that you were looking at all
VLAs, regardless of where they are defined.
Note, in particular, that 'a' in the following example is NOT a VLA, but
would be affected by this change:
size_t func(size_t n, char a[n])
{
return sizeof a;
}
According to the standard as currently written, func() must always
return sizeof(char*). With my sarcastic suggestion, it would be required
to always return the value of n. In neither case would the return value
depend in any way upon the value of the second argument.
