Huge thanks to everyone who took me seriously! I was not trolling.

To all who were wondering, I am a senior software engineer primarily working in C/C++ on manufacturing diagnostic software for Nvidia SOCs and GPUs, but I have a background that includes forays into web design and web services.

Stevie, your initial reply really captured my feelings well. A proper standard should specify a core language and extensions, to avoid the monolith.

Elizabeth, to respond to your point, I feel a good standard walks a balance between codifying existing industry practices AND anticipating future needs. I really like how the new C++11 standard does just that, i.e. threads were standardized, and lambdas appeared out of nowhere because the standards committee saw the growth of functional programming techniques in industry(growth of clojure, scala, c#, etc) and anticipated the need.

Stephen, thanks for standing up for OO. OO is no magic bullet but proper OO can really help manage complexity in large projects.

Also, Elizabeth and Stephen, thanks for your books, they were a huge help while I was learning.

I realize Forth is a decentralized language, but it seems silly for the standards committee to 'lead from behind.'(not meaning this as an insult, I am sure getting a room full of programmers in any language to agree on something is near impossible)

Factor, for all of its flaws and non-forthiness has gone a long way in demonstrating the tremendous expressive power RPN languages allow.

Anyway, I am glad to read so many well thought out answers. I see the obvious route forward is to create tools people will use, and then these can be the model for a possible future standard.
