I really appreciate all the help and advice you have given. I have learned a great deal, even though it has rather complicated my computing life for a while! In view of the notification above by poster "vallor", I decided to do something which I have done successfully before. On my operational Apple iMac (27 inch screen) I downloaded and installed 'balenaEtcher' and then used same to flash my thumb drive with Linux Mint 22.1. I then used my thumb drive to restart my old 24 inch iMac and have chosen to install Linux Mint alongside MX 23.5 Libretto. I've allocated 249.9 GB to each Distro. I was warned that changing the size allocated to each Distro would complicate matters and might take a long time but I have, nevertheless, selected to proceed on this basis. I will advise when the installation is complete. -- David
