Mike, I thank you so much for helping but I keep getting reports such as
"No such file or directory" and find it very frustrating.

In reality, I'm trying to do what you say on my old 24 inch iMac running
Linux MX - the laptop's screen is tiny by comparison and the text is 
very small.

I'm probably trying to run before I can walk. <shrug> I'm also not
feeling at my best either - some bug that's going around no doubt.
So I'm going to watch some TV instead.
