They will fight, viciously. that rooster went with the weeks batch into the hot water tub with the rotating thingies, do not recall particular difficulty in defeathering. Was a tough bird, and i think he was marinaded by the chef for awhile, stewed for long enuf, combined with a generous portion of carrots, and pureed into a soup that went very well with a dash of cinnamon. Bones for stock of course. Free range birds are quite different from mass raised chickens typically found in grocery stores, and ought be cooked differently. These birds are as free range as they get. High attrition rate, of course, but they are happier and so are we. Besides, the raccoons, foxes, hawks, and lately eagles(!) and coyotes have to eat too. There are dogs and an occasional donkey about, but apparently we have the wrong donkeys for stomping coyotes, lost a first year ewe last week. Might look at llamas. A flock of free range chickens is also very good for tick control, but not so good when the rooster screeches two feet away during a conference call, and you forgot to mute your mic. Noise wise, in that respect, guinea hens are worse, and have to be retrieved from trees if you let them free range, where they sit laughing at you. Movable cage on trailer is better for guinea hens. I have not bothered to go out to the trailer and inflict wagner on them, but one of these days. They are a captive audience, of course, so i have some moral compuctions about doing so ... the chickens could escape if they wished, they could get far enuf away i think, though i have been told that both Behrens and Voight could be heard at the neighbours half a mile away when i cranked the volume to eleven in the hogshed. Brunhilde does carry, and the hogshed stereo is very oversized. sidd

I wasn't aware of any broadcasting (for the general public) below 500KHz, but maybe my North American viewpoint is myopic. For a long time the BBC maintained a very precise (1 part in 10^11 IIRC) 200Khz carrier for one station.
