I suspect most of why I always did programming before, was because it was a hobby I could do for free, unlike electronics where one is basically blowing lots of money on electronic components and similar (like, needing lots of different transistors for different operating ranges, motors are kind of expensive, ...). though, making things IRL, you can make something that is "actually there". though code also has its merits, but I have reached a point of "no one cares", which does pose a limit. like, I can work on stuff, but I can't really talk to anyone about it as no one gives a crap, so it is similarly pointless. recently went and got some much smaller batteries (some RC battery packs), mostly because wanting to build a small robot which would be too small to use lead-acid batteries. I was originally going to use NiMH AAs, but the RC packs in question weren't too terribly expensive ($12), and have much higher current ratings (AAs would have been in "barely sufficient" territory). was going to use 3D printed plastic, but for now am making a prototype chassis mostly out of hot glue and cardboard.
