The example involving forEach that I posted in this thread was 
problematic exactly because forEach takes a Consumer, which can't throw 
a checked exception. All the most important functional interfaces in 
Java can't, and it makes many libraries a pain to use. Another case: 
just look at the hoops that CompletableFuture has to jump through with 
wrapping and unwrapping CompletionExceptions, which is a wrapper that is 
only needed to tunnel checked exceptions through the APIs. Terrible 
stuff. The language definitely stands on its own toes there.

The problem of vanishing parallel exceptions is orthogonal to that, and 
indeed independent of whether they are checked or not.
