Peculiar usage, but okay. If I may paraphrase: You would like a
deep-down method to inform a high-up method that something strange has
happened, while leaving all the in-between methods unaware that anything
out of the ordinary has occurred.
Ugh.
Furthermore (if I've understood you this time), you want the high-up
method to be unaware of the specific nature of the exceptions that may
be thrown from deep-down and percolate upward through the in-between.
When method3() calls method2(), it has no idea that method2() is going
to call method1() and hence no notion that a method1() call might fail,
nor in what manner.
Ugh.
My "Ugh's," of course, "prove" nothing. But still ...
