The closest GUESS is that it is tied to those of us who have used iCloud from
early on... but it is server related.

Mine is an Apple server issue. And given how my computer is now tied to
iCloud, it impacts my local system. If I try to copy things from Documents to
say ~/Storage I get things like this (it is not consistent)

* It copies (taking a LONG time) but then the folder is recreated in
Documents. Empty. Or sometimes only some of the contents copy and the rest
stay in Documents, and I have to keep trying to combine. There are times it
even duplicates contents so they are n both.

* It tries for a LONG time and then fails.

* It starts a copy and even after 24 hours it does not even start (setting the
computer to not sleep).

* It works.

The larger the data being copied, the worse things tend to be.

I have looked through my old computer. Thankfully, as I have said, I did NOT
tie that to iCloud. I got my new computer about 2 years ago. All my data from
before that is safe (though since then I have organized and deleted some, so
still frustrating). Very current stuff -- from the last month or so -- seems
fine or mostly so. And has now been copied to places not on iCloud. Things
from 2 months to about 2 years ago are being the biggest pain... but even that
I think I have back.

I will talk to them soon about where things are, but Apple is still working on
packaging my data.
