Nope, just notice the barrier that stops the bridge being used.

Nope, just use its mapping function to work out
where to go when that bridge isn't available.

Yes, we do have signs like that that give you warning
in advance of temporarily closed roads, usually for
rebuilding of the road or intersection etc when there
is a viable detour that can be used. But its no big deal
if the self driving car ends up at the final barrier that
stops the road or bridge being used, that just adds
a little to the distance travelled.

It has to have the capability when going to where
the occupants of the car have said they want to go.

Yes, but like I said, even if that sign is not read, the
worst that does is increase the distance travelled a bit.

Doesn’t need to, like I said.

I just came across another situation this morning, twice in
two different places. When we close a road to make the
road maintenance more convenient here, we put a full
barrier across the road, but allow vehicles to drive past
that, round the side of that, so that those whose houses
are on that closed road can still get to their houses. That
will also have to be handled by self driving cars, maybe
with some way for the occupants to indicate that the
car should go around the closed road barrier and go
to the house anyway, but not actually drive into the
part of the road that has the heavy machinery working
on it etc.

The designers of self driving cars don’t.

Wrong, there is plenty of snow in some parts of California
and even the stupidest designer knows that the car will
have to be able to handle not just California to be viable.

But a self driving car that can handle that
situation can handle living winter too.
