In theory the road closure and detour would be programmed into the
traffic control system for the navigation system in the car to pick up
live ...as some GPD navigation systems already do with live traffic
warnings.

In practice, that would require a HUGE amount of extra work to keep
data entry up-to-date and accurate, as well as consistency of systems
across (at least) the major cities of the planet. It's not like someone
at Apple Maps in California is going to know (nor want to know) about a
half-hour road closure in Temuka, New Zealand due to a milk tanker
spill.

One reason ex-Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson "hates" American cars
(keeping in mind that he did buy one of the new Ford GT sportscars) is
because they can't go around corners which the says is due to the fact
that American roads don't have corners. It's also way Nascar races take
place on a huge oval, which again doesn't have real corners.
