With those connections you should probably have TV resolution and timings.
What does your xorg.conf look like? 640x480 and 800x600 are resolutions
for computer monitors. I suppose that you in UK have the PAL TV system
which means 576 lines interlaced. 768 columns will give you a 4:3 ratio
with 576 lines.

I used the following link to calculate a modeline which might be useful:
http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl
it came up with the following:

Modeline "768x576@50i" 13.35 768 800 848 880 576 589 592 605 interlace
