I wasn't sure what to call them under Lunix. I actually got used to 
calling them Directories from using Dos many years ago, but then when 
Mac and Windoze came along I started hearing hem called folders. I'm 
still a bit of a Lunix novice.

I'm not sure what you mean by Level 3.
Would I log in as root and then open a terminal window, or is there 
something else I'd need to do?
