Sure, that's what a branch target buffer does, but which ones cope
well with A/B/A/B/A ?  In other words, there really are indirect
branch predictors that can cope well when the branch is mispredicted?

Maybe.  It's a question of whether the goal is to find something that
does what everyone needs or something that does everything that
everyone does today.
