Certainly current versions of FreeBSD do that: device "interrupts" have their own kernel thread, and the only purpose of the hardware FLIH is to mark the corresponding thread runnable (and presumably exit through the scheduler somehow? I've never actually looked at the code.) Seems less efficient than just queuing data, but I suspect that it addresses some of these issues of use of multiple cores, OS priority levels and OS locking mechanisms. Cheers, -- Andrew
