Von ihm nahm man an, dass er überall, also auch im Vakuum, vorhanden ist. Das war ein bisschen wie heute mit der Dunklen Materie, oder der Dunklen Energie. Es ist eine wichtige historische Erfahrung, dass der Äther lange Zeit allgemein als plausible Annahme auf Grund von indirekten Indizien akzeptiert war. Und doch stellte sich heraus, dass sich die Wirklichkeit besser ohne ihn und mit der Relativitätstheorie beschreiben lässt. Von daher kann ich die Bemühungen verstehen, die astronomischen Beobachtungen ohne Dunkle Materie und/oder Dunkle Energie zu erklären. Nur ist dabei bisher noch kein großes "Aha" herausgekommen, wie sie Einsteins Theorien bewirkt haben. Das Geniale and der Relativität war/ist, dass sie nicht nur den Problemknoten auflöst, wegen dem sie entdeckt wurde. ---<)kaimartin(>---
