Darüber, weshalb er den Preis nicht explizit für die RTs erhalten hat, können wir mangels Beleg wohl alle nur mutmassen. Es könnte daran gelegen haben, dass die Akademie die Bedeutung der Bestätigung der Quantenhypothese für wichtiger erachtete (was rückblickend ja gar nicht so falsch gewesen wäre, immerhin eröffnete sich damit ein Forschungsfeld, das unsere Vorstellungen von der Realität noch viel grundsätzlicher in Frage stellt als es die SRT und die ART tun¹); es könnte auch daran gelegen haben, dass Einstein in seinem „wunderbaren Jahr“ 1905 gleich vier Arbeiten veröffentlichte, die die Physik revolutionierten – so viel wie vor ihm und bisher niemand nach ihm nicht – und er eigentlich für jede dieser den Nobelpreis verdient gehabt hätte. Oder es könnte zum Beispiel auch daran liegen, dass zwar Einstein die Grundideen für die ART hatte, sie aber letztlich ein Gemeinschaftswerk vieler Physiker und Mathematiker ist (bis hin zur Korrektur von Einsteins Rechenfehlern), aber der Nobelpreis nur an maximal 3 Leute ausbezahlt werden kann. Mit dem Preis hat man (daher?)
