Es ist also gemäss ART nicht so (im Unterschied zur Newtonschen Gravitationstheorie), dass zum Beispiel die Sonne (Sol) die Erde (Terra) mit einer Kraft aufgrund ihrer Masse anzieht, und dadurch die Erde auf einen elliptischen Orbit gezwungen wird. Sondern: Die Sonne hat eine Masse (Newton), diese Masse ist äquivalent zu einer Energie (Spezielle Relativitätstheorie [SRT]), und diese Energie (bzw. die Energie*dichte*, also Energie je Volumeneinheit) ist äquivalent zu einer Krümmung der Raumzeit in der Nähe der Sonne (und auch der Erde; das ignorieren wir jetzt der Einfachheit halber). Die Erde bewegt sich – da sie im Bezugssystem Sonne nicht beschleunigt wird, also *keine* Kraft auf sie wirkt –, auf dem kürzesten Weg durch die Raumzeit. Wäre die Sonne oder eine dazu äquivalente Energie nicht dort präsent, dann wäre die Raumzeit nicht (so) gekrümmt und der Weg der Erde im Raum wäre (annähernd) eine Gerade. Weil die Raumzeit aber in dieser Weise gekrümmt ist, ergibt sich automatisch im Raum für die Erde ein elliptischer Orbit um die Sonne (ART).
