I think the usual thinking is "CS uses math, Calculus is math, make CS 
majors take Calculus classes...".

so, it is mostly things like Calculus classes mixed with introductory 
programming classes (C# and Visual Basic), and misc things like SQL and 
similar, and as a final project you throw together a data-entry type 
application using VB.NET and an SQL database...

there was an class for algorithms, but it was fairly rudimentary, like 
implementing linked lists and bubble sort.

actual "serious" CS topics didn't really come up...


like, all I know about compilers, signal processing, ... was all because 
I work on this stuff as a hobby.
