Thanks, but I think I just found the problem.
An old Cable router that I now use as a network switch, and when I 
installed my new Netgear router about 6 months ago, I stupidly set it to 
the same address as that old cable router. So it's surprising that I 
haven't noticed any problems before.

I've now fixed that problem, and I'm going to see if my 32bit Linux box 
now works properly, (but 1st I have to get it up and running again, as 
my latest attempt at configuring the tV-Output didn't work).
