Right, perhaps I'm getting somewhere now.

I disconnected everything from my router except for the 32bit linux box, 
and my laptop (which connects wirelessly). Then I restarted everything, 
and it now seems to be working properly. So perhaps the whole problem 
was something to do with my router not being able to handle everything 
that was connecting to it. I'm thinking perhaps it might be the torrent 
client on my 64bit linux box that might have been creating the problem. 
Not sure exactly why my 32bit box was the only machine affected, perhaps 
because it's just not quite as powerful as the other machines on my network.

If I'm right about this, then I'll probably just have to shut everything 
else down whenever I need to update my 32bit box via the internet.


Now hopefully I can get on with figuring out my TV-Out configuration. 
I've now managed to log into my 32bit box from my laptop using Winscp. 
The reason for wanting to do this is that when I try to amend the 
xorg.conf on my 32bit box, I tend to end up with a blank screen, so I 
needed another way to access it, without having to crash out by 
switching it off. Right now to try and configure the TV-Output.
