that's a 10 mp camera, creating photos with 3648 x 2736 pixels.

not really.

sigma makes cheaper lenses for those who don't want to pay the premium
for nikon/canon lenses. you mostly get what you pay for. their quality
control is awful. many times you have to go through several copies to
get a lens that isn't defective in one way or another. a common flaw is
off-centered elements, which results in one side of the image being
sharper than the other. 

tokina and tamron are decent third party options, but the best choice
is usually the camera maker's own lenses (there are the occasional
exceptions).
