Tables /can/ have problems. *Very* rarely
You are wording it the way that because there is a *very* small chance that 
some document /might/ look slightly different one should not use LO

I have repaired more than once MS Office docs exactly that way.
Just because *you* have not had that problem does not mean that it does not

It *is* widely used, by more than 100 million people.
It is the Office suite of choice for Munich, they don't use MS Office 
anymore on more than 15.000 computers. MS Office is only then used (very 
rarely) when some dimbulb decided that he needed to make elaborate documents

Except they are not substandard. Name 2 features which are used in MS Office 
and not present in LO

MY wife is a teacher, she uses LO. The school and her colleagues use MS 
Office. 
Why is it that she has no problems using your "substandard" LO?

And why is it that you can have Office docs which display, print and behave 
*exactly* the same on windows, OSX and linux with LO, but you can't even 
have MS Office docs which are completely interchangeable between windows and 
OSX? What is the "substandard" solution in that case?
