LibreOffice reads and writes MSOffice format quite well.  Since you are 
sending stuff to them, you just have to avoid doing any extremely fancy 
formatting.  And if they use complicated formatting, it might not look 
as good when you open it, but it should be readable.

If they don't need to edit what you send, then I would suggest sending 
PDF.  Click Print, then in the lower left corner "Mail PDF"

Apple's Pages can also save in Office format.  Don't know how good it is 
with formatting.
