LibreOffice typically takes two to four seconds to launch for me from an 
SSD.  No biggy; many apps are that slow (and Word is slower).  Oddly, it 
will run fine for a long time, then suddenly the simplest of operations 
will spin the beachball for thirty seconds or more, during which other 
apps are still responsive.  Closing all documents and the app and 
relaunching (which does a beachball for each file, with or without 
saving) is the only way I know to make it usable again.

Don't think it is thrashing or garbage-collection, because I have eight 
GB RAM, a half-full one-TB SSD, and it started doing this just recently.

I do not remember whether it started before or after Sierra.
