Precisely.  The rest of us who do collaborations, often across 
departments, with clients, suppliers and many others, having everyone on 
the same applications software is not a lark - it is a must for 
everyone's benefit and sanity.  So the de facto standard wins out.

Which is a passive aggressive uncooperative attitude that may work in 
your tiny world that would see anyone in a real world collaboration 
passed by, marginalized and ignored.  If he was some wild genius type 
(I'm not accusing you of that) then someone would be assigned as the 
interface - further driving up costs.
