Considered CentOS.  I'd been using Fedora for years since Core 3, but
wanted to get away from "experimental," constantly in flux software. 
And I want long term support, too.  And for longevity, I wanted
something that was newer. At the time, the newest release of Cent (6,
I think) was based off Fedora 12/13 code, the release I was currently
using which was already over a year past End of Life. So, Cent was
out.

To make a long story short, I ultimately decide on Debian, but continued
to use Fedora 12 for another 6 to 8 months until Wheezy became the
new Stable, May 2013 IIRC.

My current upgrade plan is to wait for Debian 9 Stretch, but depending I
may abandon Debian and go with something else.  I have no irrational
loyalties.  I pick what fits my requirements.  And, too, it's about time
to build a new system. This one is for the most part is 9 years old and
even though it's been upgrade numerous times, the newest part is still
2 or 3 years old.  Or maybe instead, I should just replace this aging
box with a small, powerful notebook and dock.
