I have > not had any modern laptop that will not immediately install any distro (once > the UEFI is dealt with) > John Some years ago in an airport waiting for my flight, an obvious student (long, messy hair, dressed like a bum) began to pull a notebook out of his beat up backpack. And pulled. And pulled! And PULLED! It had to be a 17 or 20 Macbook -- when they made them that big. The largest notebook I'd ever seen. It was comical like at the circus watching in amazement as clowns continually exit out of a small toy car. Notebooks that size are not what I'd consider very portable, but as you said aren't meant to be: they just sit on the desk more or less a permanent fixture like the old computer boxes used to sit under it. And for portability, they carry the biggest smartphones and/or tablets in existence. Until an even bigger new model debuts. I've got a Nexus 4(!) phone and it's really bigger than I wanted, but it was the smallest avaiable. All the other smartphones were even bigger. That was two years ago. Now a "small" phone has a 6" screen. I can't even get something that big in my pocket. If things keep going the way they've been going -- bigger is better, ya' know, I'll need to hire a Sherpa to carry my phone. ;-) Stef
