ok, I have put in the username and password, and connected via the NBN 
TPG port, but I can't access the internet. it would seem to me that I 
need to change other settings on the modem. eg. NTP servers, ???

yes. I can connect via LAN but then I have the problem that the tv keeps 
connecting and disconnecting, making the LAN connection virtually unusable
