They couldn’t with the interaction with NBNco alone, precisely
what you are whining about, getting a notification when NBNco
has done what needed to be done to provide you with a service.

For all you know, the problem could well be that NBNco
didn’t even bother to tell them when you service with
MR had been provisioned, so MR couldn’t tell you that.

And they are completely fucking hopeless at allowing
your home phone number to be ported to a new RSP,
and utterly notorious in the industry for that.
