yes, they absolutely are the same.

nope. the entire a and b squares are *identical* rgb {120,120,120}.
the only area that isn't are letter markings, which obviously would
have to be different or you would not be able to know which was which.
make sure you are sampling a small enough sample, as in one pixel, to
not include the letters, the neighboring cells or the anti-aliasing of
the borders.

You are, alas, incorrect.
Put the DigitalColour Meter cursor in the uppermost corner of the A
square: it reads as low as {101,101,101}

I've been at this a long time, and I am using a one pixel sample, and
at least 5-6 pixels away from the edge of the square.

nope. they are *identical*.

it's {120,120,120} in the entire square.
the uppermost corner has some jpeg artifacting, which is throwing off
your reading.
read the middle of the square, away from any interference.

it's being thrown off by something.
put the cursor in the middle, away from the letter markings and
borders.
it's {120,120,120} on both. period.

My apologies.
I see where I erred. I placed window for DigitalColor Meter too close
to the graphic...
...and forgot about the shadow that surrounds the frontmost window.

Oh, for fucks sake, give it a rest. I "quite clearly" don't give two shits about the dock. Did you read anything I wrote? Did you understand anything I wrote? I'm wasting my breath on a lost cause. I offered you an olive branch when I KNEW you had made a simple grammar mistake. Did you take it? No. You grabbed the branch and took a swing at me. You ready to tell me, now, that the new Yosemite system font isn't harder to read like I said? That I'm WRONG about that, too, like I was wrong about the checker shadow illusion?
