If I truly wanted (or needed) to remove them, I probably would. I just
thought it was an oddity.

As it stands, there's really no overriding need to do so... and I just
*might* want to play a game of Chess, someday.

You never know when somebody will break into your house and hold a gun
to your head and demand that you teach them how to play chess.

Now... I do think that some of the Apple apps are probably integrated
into the OS... like Contacts, or Font Book.

Font Book is another travesty. In Mountain Lion, it would routinely
take two minutes, or more just to open up. At least it appears to be
fixed in Mavericks. It actually works, now.

i have a copy of Suitcase Fusion... but, after using it in work, I'm
not sure it's that great an app. It seems to slow things down.

No they are not. "going to use it" and "using it" are not the same.
The first is a future condition; the second is present condition.

Nothing fucking "allegedly" about it. I proofread. It's a statement of FACT.
Accept it, or not, I don't care what you think, when you occasionally
DO bother to think.

That's semantics. It doesn't address the fact that it's going to be in
the way when I don't want it to be.

What does it matter if a truck blocks my car when I'm not driving it?
It's a different matter when I want to drive somewhere.

Riiiight! That's why you wrote: "It's a statement of FACT."

It's not semantics. The Dock, when hidden, isn't in the way when you
are not yet using it.

You'd think someone who claims to proofread would understand that
language has nuances.

True. And if that's what you'd said, you might have had a point.

It remains in the way even if not visible if you must keep your active
windows far enough away from the zone where the mouse triggters the
appearance of the dock.

With vertical dock, I found that the dock would often annoyingly pop up
whenever the mouse was getting dangerously close to the left edge of the
screen, so I have to position my windows sufficiently far away which
ends up wasting just as much space as leaving the dock on.

With the dock always on, if I want to bring itunes to foreground, I
already see where iTunes is located on dock and can move my mouse
directly to it.

With hidden dock, I must first move mouse to the dock area to cause it
to pop open and then look for the itunes iocon and then move mouse to it.

I know where icons are in my dock. And when I want to bring running
applications to the foreground, I use Cmd-tab almost exclusively.

When I first tried to the auto-hide of the dock, I found it kept coming

idea how many pixels, but it was very annoying.

My apps now create windows that are just to the right of the dock, so
there is no overlap and the dock is stead and doesn't come in and out.
Far less annoying.

Many* applications (especially these days) are "Dock aware", but some*
aren't and still insist on putting windows underneath the Dock.

The problem with putting the Dock on the right-hand side or the bottom,
can be when using scrollbars. It might be worth trying a left-hand Dock
since there aren't any scroll bars on that edge of a window.

It also might be worth playing with something like TinkerTool which has
an option (if it stil works in the newest OS X versions) to lock the
Dock to one corner rather than floating in the middle of the edge.

Except for the optical illusion? Well, yeah. That, and Yosemite's use
of a harder to read system font. Or the removal of Apple apps. But
that's not the POINT of ANY of my concerns. None of this is about the
dock, or the Apple menu, or Chess. NONE OF IT.

The real concern is the fact that people read things into comments that
ARE NOT THERE. You say one thing, and they jump on you for their
interpretation of what you said, and not what you actually said.
Nobody addresses your point. They snipe at you.

How do you account for the fact that when I said that I couldn't delete
Chess, it became that I said my life was over because I couldn't save 7
megs? I then corrected the record, and they piled on even more.

It's pure mean spirited, piggishly thickheaded nit picking for the sake
of self-satisfying chest thumping and ego boosting.

I heard a line today from Chris Hardwick that perfectly illustrates
everything I've been talking about. He said:

"The real power of the "nerd set" is to understand something, more than
any other living creature, to a molecular level... and then use that
information against people."

Forget the dock. Forget Yosemite. Forget ice. Forget the Apple menu.

What SHOULDN'T be forgotten is that these groups are becoming a
cesspool. Full of nothing but shit that needs to be periodically
pumped out to sea.

People used to come here to help out... to pool and share information.
See much of that, lately do you? Now all we do is come here and call
each other assholes.

I do see much of that even now.
