The northwest part is much wetter. Last winter had almost no snow in the valley. My Nordic ski gear is ancient but I've never updated it. Without driving to higher elevations conditions are usually poor. Elevation is the real factor. Often in the winter you can look around and see a bathtub ring at 5000 to 6000'. That's reflected by mostly shortgrass prairie below the snow line and trees above. The snow pack in the mountains is watched closely since it's the spring melt that feeds the rivers. Crops (and lawns) are irrigated and there isn't that much naturally moist soil. Poison ivy is the same. The only patch I know of within 50 miles is on a riverbank under a bridge that keeps the soil moist. I don't think you have the pleasure of poison ivy. It certainly isn't one of the New World plants that needed to be taken back to Europe.
