I booted a live Ub 18.04 Mate and installed UKUU.  It provides a wealth 
(too many?) choices of kernels from 4.0.xx to 4.20.x and there are a LOT 
of xx/s.

I haven't been able to determine if there is any advantage to anything 
over 4.18 and I don't know if one should use 4.18.20 as opposed to one 
of the lower 4.18.nn.

I would not immediately assume that the higher the kernel v. the better, 
because my instinct tells me there is more 'danger' in a greater kernel 
leap for a distro which is based on kernel 4.15.  That is, why go any 
higher than enough to suit the Ryzen you have.

That is another reason for experimenting with the live USB with 
persistence first.

Also, UKUU is now going 'commercial' with its newest upgrade.  The one 
in the .ppa is free, but when run it offers to upgrade if you buy a 
license for $11.
