Here's a positive report on using 18.10:

"I recently built a PC with an Asus Prime A320M-K motherboard, a Ryzen 3
2200G and 2x8GB Corsair 2400MHz RAM. After updating the BIOS to the most
recent version, I installed Kubuntu 18.10 (it ships with kernel 4.18). I
have not had any issues while web browsing or video streaming yet. There
are no booting issues at the moment, except that the splash screen does
not show."

On the same page, another person who didn't name his distro, but it was
probably 18.04, booted live with nomodeset boot parameter and used the
kernel updater ULUU to up his kernel to 4.18. I would do that with a
live with persistence as opposed to installed and of course you couldn't
just do it live because you need to reboot the kernel.

I've done persistence with both Win Yumi and Linux mkusb and now I
prefer mkusb over Yumi. One way to achieve the persistence goal
starting from a Win system is to have two USB sticks. Apparently you
have an older system running XP. Use that to make an Ub 18.10 whatever
DE, Gnome, Mate, etc using such as Win Rufus. XFCE would probably be
the lightest if the XP hardware is old, ie Xubuntu 18.10.

Then boot that live, and install mkusb on it. Then use that live with
mksub to make another USB stick which is Xub 18.10 with persistence. So
far there would be only the one .iso dl.

Then use that Xub 18.10 with persistence on the Ryzen machine to see how
it boots.

If you want LTS, you would 'eventually' work your way back to one of the
18.04 Ubs with persistence and boot that with nomodeset and no gfx
acceleration and install ULUU to upgrade the kernel to 4.18. That
kernel leap is not without 'risk' (of breaking) so that is why I would
do it on a live USB with persistence first.

If all that worked out OK on the live USB w/ persistence, you could
install to the hdd of the Ryzen machine.
