You will need a somewhat new kernel to run on Ryzen, you need at least 4.10 or later. If you are unsure about the kernel version, please visit distrowatch.com and select the distribution you want to double check. > Afaik there've always been some problems related to graphics > in linux environments so I wonder if I'll get any with the vega > graphics; If you want out of the box support, you will need a kernel 4.15 or later, there is of course AMD's own closed source driver too, but then you need to install a distribution supported by the closed source driver. The open source one will be decent, maybe not full support while the closed source will give you everything. IMHO you still get better graphics with nVidia and their closed source driver, while AMD and Intel gives you better support if you go with the open source driver. > Unluckly my ram works @2400mhz 17-17-17-39 1.368V by default on that > cfg but I can switch on a-xmp profile2 @2933 15-17-17-36 1.368V and > it works good the same and I guess it's safe for my system's "health" > on the long period, isn't it? Running on the lower frequency may make your ram last longer, but I doubt you will keep your computer long enough to have the risk of the ram starting to wear out. > That said I ask: should I avoid some linux distros for graphic > troubles related to ryzen? In general, I would avoid all that has a kernel older than 4.15, as the 4.15 isn't maintained anymore, you should keep your eye open for distros with 4.19/4.20. Also you may want to use one that supplies an easy way to install the closed source driver, so debian maybe not too high on your list. > will I get troubles due to OCed ram in linux? Not unless you over clock it too much so that you get instabilities, but you will notice those in the other OS too. > what linux distros can you suggest for my system stability, > my graphics and friendlyness? > I'd prefer an ubuntu DE due to its community support > but I'll consider everything anyway (eg. Mint). So why not just go with *ubuntu as you already prefer it. Other alternatives would Mint as you mentioned, OpenSuse is quite nice too and if you fear the security vulnerabilities in systemd, then you maybe should take a look at Artix Linux. -- //Aho
