All that due to my almost "gipsy" lifestyle therefore I need mobile connectivity. I understand. You have decent connectivity speed that way, but you are capped at 30G/mo > The ubuntu iso I've just downloaded is 1.8GB and it's taken about 4' by torrent from official site and under winXP; not bad for me. The problem is the plan itself: 30GB/month so if I decide to get a bunch of distros ISOes I can't use internet for much anything else. Due to that I cared of asking a "direction" to point to, mainly on my cgf base and friendlyness, I mean 3-5 distros, anyway I've time to try and decide so I'm going to start with ubuntu and next month I'll get debian or pclinuxos or mint. I'll keep your data limits in mind in my advice. But in your circumstance you want to get something that works first, and then later to fine-tune what might be better or more appealing. The big advantage of the 18.04 compared to 18.10 is the LTS aspect, LTS is supported until 2028 vs 2019 Jul for the 18.10. But, the big advantage of the 18.10 for working fine outofthebox or a less 'severe' kernel upgrade to make your Ryzen happy. That is, I would lean toward booting 18.10 first with or without tweaking it; then if that works out OK, try to make the LTS 18.04 work for the convenience of its long support. > The HW/cfg matters ware almost answered by kernel upgrading solution so as a very newbie at this point I guess the most important question for me would be: if I'll get any trouble with a certain distro due to HW/SW reasons what will be the best thing to do, trying another distro or trying to solve the matter within the distro itself? Due to that I'm going to start with ubuntu: it seems to have my native language's largest community. In my opinion as an 'intermediate' not a guru, it is important for things to just work or need a small tweak. I can't solve problems with a hammer and chisel like some can do with the command line, because they know what they are doing. Your GG headers look like you are in NW (northwest) Italy. That would be near where the Winter Olympics were in 2006, so you might not be far from snow skiing. -- Mike Easter
