I'd never go back to a map again for driving. 
You can't even look at that map when driving. 

And the best of the turn by turn navigation systems
like google maps is much better with congestion 
alone, being able to route you around congestion
which it works out by observing the movement of
all the mobile phones via the base station reports. 

Street view can be handy too. I knew what Central
Station looked like and it was handy to check that
on the street view to check that the external 
appearance hadn't changed before going back 
there decades later etc. 

That is one area where google maps needs real
improvement tho, it should be telling you what
lane you need to be in well before you must be
in a particular lane. Currently it doesn't do that. 

Some of the dedicated GPS apps do tho but
those are obscenely expensive apps, like $50 etc.

Sure, but I think its much better to use 
a tablet in a mount on the dash instead.
