Only 1 KW? How big are your batteries?

I think you can simply:

   - Disconnect from the mains with a manual switch
   - Keep a bulb connected to outside to find out when electricity comes 
back.
   - Connect your batteries to a suitable inverter, and connect the 
output to the inner side of the big house switch.

Anyone having a solar independent installation, not connected to the 
mains, does that.


Having batteries and not being able to go solo when needed has a stupid 
system. Not saying he is stupid, but that he was tricked by the seller 
of the system.
