Yes, perhaps the read-only part was extra to requirements. Multisession 
was all that was needed.

FWIW the overlay operation has an important difference when files are 
deleted. Because the original file and the original directory entry 
still exist, to 'delete' a file from a later session requires a 
directory entry (in the directory for that later session) which names 
the file and says it has been deleted.
