Your program doesn't do the same thing.
I noticed you cleverly used fputs instead of puts to hide the fact that
newline hasn't been stripped from the ends of the input lines.
Fix that and see if it's still that much simpler.
Yes, you can get away without eof(), if you substitute another
non-standard routine that delivers a status and presents the next result
in a buffer.
However that is not a general solution (I'm sure I've said all this
already). Maybe the body of the loop isn't reading a line at a time.
Maybe sometimes you need full dynamic line buffering, sometimes not.
Every loop condition will be a bit different. That's why I think 'while
(!eof(f)) {}' if a fine starting pattern for sequential file reading.
