Nor do all the anti-money laundering regulations that make life tedious 
when dealing with banks in the UK.

Thanks for an update but ...

I just tried running it through the suite of test programs

1) SUBSTITUTE doesn't seem to return the number of substitutions any 
more. It used to I believe. e.g

2) There are now a huge number of irritating warning messages. Why 
should GForth warn me that:

    '0.' is a double-cell integer; type `help' for more info

when I already know that

3) Ditto with (in hex mode)

    defined literal BEAD as word

That's what the program is testing

4) A locals test fails, it used to work:

    DECIMAL
    T{ : LT31 {: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P :}
              P O N M L K J I H G F E D C B A ; -> }T
    16 BASE !

5) Now that GForth NAME>INTERPRET seems to return an xt for a word 
without interpretation semantics we can't test that NAME>INTERPRET 
returns a 0 for such words. I always recognised that might be a problem 
and I suppose I'll now have to change the test. But I have to say that 
some words don't do anything sensible when their interpret xt is executed
e.g.
    $" RECURSE" FORTH-WORDLIST GET-NAME-TOKEN NAME>INTERPRET
    .s <1> -5418952  ok
    execute .s <2> -5419160 19  ok
    type %%abc%%def%%%%ghi%% ok

The string returned is from a previous test on UNESCAPE in a different 
file. I'd rather a system reported an error.

6) May not be your problem but when the console window is resized any 
text displayed disappears, but GForth is still working. Also the colours 
for the error messages are unreadable, I had to change to white 
background and black text to see what had happened. These problems 
weren't in the last version I was using.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to run the suite of test programs through a 
new version before you actually release it?
